Day 1: Transfer to Akagera National Park – Game drive & a sunset boat trip
A skilled driver-guide from Vazquez Tours & Travel Ltd will conveniently pick you up from your Kigali hotel, offering a brief safari briefing. Prepare for a captivating journey as you embark on a scenic drive of approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes towards the eastern part of Rwanda, where you will be enchanted by the country’s breathtaking landscapes and the vibrant local culture. Upon reaching Akagera, you will transfer to the park headquarters for registration and subsequently check-in at the delightful Ruzizi Tented Lodge, where you will savor a delicious lunch.
After lunch, you will embark on an afternoon game drive, which is an excellent opportunity to see a variety of wildlife, including elephants, giraffes, cape buffaloes, olive baboons, hippos, warthogs, Nile crocodiles, and many species of antelope.
Take an afternoon boat ride on Lake Ihema, and you’ll be rewarded with views of multitude of hippos, enormous Nile crocodiles, and a variety of bird species. Bird enthusiasts will be entertained by the majestic African Fish Eagles and a high concentration of waterbirds. Keep an eye out for the sought-after Shoebill Stork, Papyrus Gonolek, cormorants, and many other species in the marshes. After you complete your tours, your driver-guide will transfer you back to your lodge. You will then enjoy dinner and spend the night there.

Day 2: Full day game drive – Transfer back to Kigali
After having breakfast at your lodge and checking out, you will bid farewell to the wonderful team at Ruzizi Tented Lodge. Next, you will embark on a game drive thought the African savannah park, where you can spot a variety of animals such as elephants, giraffes, cape buffaloes, hippos, different types of antelopes, and other mammal species. Lucky visitors might even come across a leopard, a spotted hyena, or a majestic lion.
Akagera National Park boasts an inspiring conservation success story, as it now provides a home to lions and rhinos, making it the only Big-Five in the country. The revenue generated from tourism is reinvested into the park and the local community.
Bush packed lunch will be served in the park. After a full day of game drives, you’ll head back to Kigali city, feeling invigorated by your experience and memories that will last a lifetime.
